Masayuki Okamoto, who previously led the finance practice at Clifford Chance’s Tokyo office, has joined Japanese financial services company Monex Group as an executive director and general counsel.

Okamoto specialises in structured finance, acquisition finance, real estate finance, banking and financial regulatory work. He joined Clifford Chance in 2006 as a partner from Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer. Notable work while at Clifford Chance has included acting on Toshiba’s $5.4 billion share placement in 2018.

Founded in 1999, Monex Group operates as a holding company which provides online brokerage and financial services through its subsidiaries. It provides online securities brokerage services to individual investors and businesses in Japan, the United States, and the Asia-Pacific.
