Mayer Brown JSM has hired Pieter de Ridder, the former head of Loyens & Loeff’s Singapore office, as a partner in its tax practice in the city-state.

With more than two decades in Asia, de Ridder has advised multinational companies and institutions on inbound and outbound work. He arrived in Singapore in 1996.

de Ridder’s practice focuses on advising tax matters such as direct investment, restructurings, financing arrangements, private equity and holding company structures into or from countries such as China, Hong Kong, India and the countries in Southeast Asia, especially Indonesia.

“Pieter has established himself as a top-notch tax lawyer and adviser on cross jurisdictional work involving investments in or from Asia,” said Jason Bazar, co-chair of Mayer Brown JSM’s Tax Transactions & Consulting practice, in a statement. “His arrival has broadened our capabilities on many levels in terms of advising our global clients doing business in Asia. We are very pleased to have him on board.”

Prior to his stint at Loyens & Loeff, de Ridder worked at a Big Four accounting firm in the Netherlands, Indonesia and Hong Kong.
