newsMorrison Foerster has hired private equity and M&A specialist Steven Tran as a partner in Singapore from Mayer Brown.

Tran joined Mayer Brown as a partner in 2019 from Hogan Lovells. He was earlier a partner at Kirkland & Ellis.

Tran advises PE funds and their portfolio companies as well as multinational corporations on transactions in sectors such as consumer, technology, real estate, professional services and manufacturing. His notable cases include advising a Southeast Asian sovereign wealth fund on its commercial and residential real estate co-investment in Vietnam; a global private equity fund on its proposed acquisition of a Singapore fintech company; and Tricor Group, a former portfolio company of Permira, on the restructuring of its Vietnam and Thailand operations.

His arrival takes the number of partners in MoFo’s Singapore office to 10.

Morrison & Foerster and Zhong Lun Law Firm have advised Hong Kong-based private equity firm Ascendent Capital on its $1.66 billion bid to take Chinese automation control system provider Hollysys private. The latter is being represented by Davis Polk & Wardwell and Haiwen & Partners.
