Simmons & Simmons has advised London-based investment management company Sturgeon Capital on the restructuring of its Sturgeon Central Asia Fund, thus enabling it to be one of the first funds to invest in Iran.

According to a press release, the restructuring of the Sturgeon Central Asia Fund allows Sturgeon Capital “to commence investment in Iran in a manner that complied with pre-existing sanctions, giving it a head start and positioning it for liberalisation.”

The deal comes at a time when most international sanctions on Iran are expected to be lifted in return for restrictions on Tehran's nuclear programme.

A London-based Simmons & Simmons team, led by private funds partner Dale Gabbert and compliance partner Stephen Gentle, advised Sturgeon Capital.
