Professor Hikmahanto Juwana, Independent Commissioner, Unilever Indonesia, Member of the Legal Experts Team, Ministry of Defense,  Member of the Legal Committee, Ministry of State-Owned Enterprises, Professor of International Law, University of Indonesia

Indonesian citizen, born in Jakarta. Independent Commissioner of Unilever Indonesia since May 2011. He is currently also serving as an Independent Commissioner of PT Aneka Tambang Tbk (May 2009-present), a Member of the Legal Experts Team at the Ministry of Defense (February 2010-present), and a Member of the Legal Committee at the Ministry of State-Owned Enterprises (September 2011-present). He was a Member of the Taxation Oversight Committee at the Ministry of Finance, (March 2010-March 2013) and the Expert Council at the Ministry of Justice and Human Rights (2004- 2005). He worked as consultant at the National Development Planning Board (Empowerment of the Commercial Court Adviser) from 2001 to 2002, and was Senior Legal Adviser to the Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs from 1999 to 2001. Prior to that he served in various capacities at a number of prominent law firms in Jakarta.

He is inaugurated as Professor of International Law at the University of Indonesia in 2001, and served as Dean of the Faculty of Law from 2004 to 2008. He also teaches Law at several other prominent universities in Indonesia and has been a visiting professor at the University of Melbourne, National University of Singapore and Nagoya University, Japan.

As an independent researcher he has published numerous books, articles and research papers on various aspects of international law, business law, and air and space law, among others. He graduated with a degree in Law from the University of Indonesia in 1987, and holds an LLM from Keio University, Japan (1992) and a PhD from the University of Nottingham, UK (1997).

Arsul Sani, Member of Parliament (DPR/MPR-RI),Republic of Indonesia (Committee of Law, Security and Human Rights & Legislation Committee)

Before entering into Parliament House, Mr. Sani was a Senior Partner of SAP Advocates, a medium size firm in Jakarta focusing on general corporate practice and commercial dispute resolution (litigation and arbitration). He was also Corporate Affairs Director of Tupperware Indonesia since 1997 to 2011 and then Commissioner from 2011 - 2014. He is former chairman of the Indonesian Corporate Counsel Association (ICCA) 2006 – 2008, Head of International Relations of the Indonesian Bar Association (IKADIN) 2007 – 2013 and Head of Legal Committee of the Indonesian Direct Selling Association (APLI) 2001 - 2006.

Mr. Sani graduated from Faculty of Law, University of Indonesia in 1987 and has more than 25 years experience as a commercial litigation and arbitration lawyer.  He was a visiting lawyer in 1993-1994 at Dunhill, Madden Butler – Sydney, NSW Australia as well as co-lecturer for the subject of Commercial Dispute Resolution in the Pacific Rim (Indonesian Chapter) at University of Technology Sydney. He has continuously been classified as one of the leading individuals in the Dispute Resolution practice area for Indonesia by Legal 500. Since 2011 he has been undertaking a doctorate program in justice, policy and welfare studies at Glasgow School for Business and Society, Glasgow Caledonian University, Scotland – UK.

Mr. Sani has been involved in various public interest works, particularly in law and policy area and, inter alia, has been appointed by PPATK (the Indonesian Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center) as a resource person in the mutual evaluation of Indonesian anti money laundering regimes by the international team of Financial Action Task Force (FATF) on Money Laundering.      

Melissa Ng, Partner, Clifford Chance

Melissa Ng is a partner in the Corporate Group at Clifford Chance Singapore. She advises on M&A, joint ventures and divestments for a range of clients, including private equity houses, oil and gas companies and Fortune 500 companies. She has particular expertise in the banking, energy and infrastructure, and consumer goods.

Melissa graduated with a Law degree from University of Cambridge. She started her career in Clifford Chance London, relocated to Singapore in 2004, and was elected to the firm's partnership in 2013.

Melissa is regularly recognised in legal directories for her work across South East Asia, particularly in Indonesia, and is most recently commended in Chambers Asia-Pacific 2015 for Corporate & Finance practices in Indonesia for being "very technical, very sound and very responsive."

Dede Fikry, Senior Associate, Linda Widyati & Partners (LWP) in association with Clifford Chance

Dede is a senior associate in the Corporate practice at LWP, with over 10 years of experience assisting international and Indonesian clients in general corporate M&A transactions. He was also involved in various project financing and acquisition financing transactions for Indonesian companies in the telecommunications and mining sectors. Dede also has experience in the government sector after a one year stint working in the international affairs team for the President of the Republic of Indonesia.

Dede graduated with a Law degree from University of Indonesia. He is a licensed Advocate and a member of the Indonesian Advocates Association (Peradi). 

Ricardo Simanjuntak, Co-Chairman, PERADI

Ricardo Simanjuntak is a co-chairman in the Ntaional board of Chairmen of PERADI since 2010. He is also the founder of the Ricardo Simanjuntak & Partners Law Firm located at Kuningan – Jakarta. Ricardo received his law degree at the North Sumatra University, his master degree in International Commercial Law from the University of Nottingham and his doctorate degree in law at the Padjajaran University. In 2012, Ricardo was listed as a leading specialist in insurance, reinsurance and banking from AsiaLaw. Before his current role as founder of Simajuntak & Partners, he was the president of the Indonesian Receiver and Administrator Association (AKPI) from 2010 to 2013 and the chairman of the ASEAN Competition Institute of Indonesia until 2010.  Aside from these function, he is also fostering legal development and learning by being an educator for post graduate programs and an authorized mediator at the Indonesian National Mediator center (PMN). Ricardo is also a current member of the board of experts at the Indonesian Insurance Institutute (AMAAI) and of the legal drafting of the draft law of the Indonesia Civil Procedure of the Indonesia Ministry of Law and Human Rights. 

Arnaud Granger, Managing Director, Banking - Mergers & Acquisitions, Barclays

Arnaud Granger is a Managing Director and Head of Mergers & Acquisitions, Southeast Asia, based in Singapore. He is responsible for the origination and execution of M&A transactions in Southeast Asia. Arnaud has 15 years of transaction experience leading the origination and execution of cross-border M&A and private equity transactions, focusing on Indonesia since 2004. Prior to joining Barclays in 2010, Arnaud worked in the Investment Banking Division of Credit Suisse and previously with Shearman & Sterling and White & Case as an M&A lawyer. Arnaud holds an MBA from INSEAD and an LL.M. from Georgetown University Law Center. He is also admitted to the New York and French bars. 

 

Hilton King, General Counsel, Sampoerna Strategic.

Hilton has worked in Indonesia over 25 years, and is currently General Counsel to PT Sampoerna Strategic, a diversified Indonesian investment group, with interests in palm oil (and other crops), timber processing, microfinance, property, telecoms and mining.  PT Sampoerna Agro Tbk is listed on the IDX and Samko Timber Pte Ltd on the SGX. The highly regarded Putera Sampoerna Foundation is dedicated to improving access to and quality of education in Indonesia and has recently launched the Sampoerna School System. Hilton began legal practice with the Australian firm Freehills, first in Melbourne and then in Singapore.  

For 19 years from 1989 he was ‘foreign legal consultant’ to the Indonesian law firm Makarim & Taira S. Hilton specialized in project finance, M&A, investment and commercial law. In particular, he focused on infrastructure, energy & resources, foreign investment, manufacturing and financial services.  Hilton represented a number of the early IPPs in Indonesia both in the development phase and their restructuring phase following the late 90s Asian monetary crisis. And later he acted for the Cirebon sponsors, first of the ‘new generation’ IPPs. He represented various mining companies on Contract of Work, divestment, forestry and financing issues. He acted for successful bidders on several of the early Indonesian Government privatizations

Paku Utama, Ph.D Candidate, China University of Political Science and Law, Course Coordinator, Corruption Eradication Commission of Indonesia and senior investigator at Ernst and Young

Paku Utama is presently a Ph.D candidate at China University of Political Science and Law and the coordinator for integrated specialised course on understanding gatekeepers in KPK / Corruption Eradication Commission of Indonesia. He was previously a Researcher at Indonesia Center on Anti-Money Laundering, Faculty of Law University of Indonesia Anti-Corruption, a Consultant for United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (between 2009-2011) focusing on supporting UNODC anti-corruption activities in Indonesia

Paku is also currently senior investigator at Ernst and Young in the fraud and services division, having joined in late 2014. In his current role, he is responsible for conducting investigations over complex money laundering schemes. He was previously a consultant on Asset Recovery for global Transparency International and a consultant on asset recovery diagnostic assessment team and on the Century Case for Presidential Delivery Unit on Development Oversight and Monitoring

 

A regular author and public speaker, Paku has edited or authored 4 books in the areas of corruption and asset recovery in Indonesia, as well as a number of peer reviewed articles in the same field

Reza Topobroto, Chairman, Indonesia Corporate Counsel Association, Director, Legal Affairs, Microsoft Indonesia

Reza Topobroto has long experience in legal career.  For almost 20 years he has been dedicated for this profession.  Currently, Reza is a Director of Legal Affairs for PT Microsoft Indonesia and also the Chairman of the Indonesia Corporate Counsel Association (ICCA). His first exposure as an in-house counsel was as Country Legal Manager of Procter & Gamble (P&G) Indonesia. Between P&G and Microsoft, he was a Country Legal Head of Kraft Foods Indonesia. Prior to moving in-house, Reza worked in private practice for seven years with various major law firms, among others including Soebagjo Jatim Djarot and Roosdiono Partners.

 

Reza read law at the University of Trisakti and obtained a Master degree (LLM) from Monash University, Australia.

Kunthi Kuhr

Kunthi Hartini, Manager - Legal & Compliance, PT Novo Nordisk, Indonesia

Kunthi Hartini is the legal and compliance manager at PT Novo Nordisk Indonesia, and has a total of 15 years legal experience, working with a wide range of companies, including: PT Mahadana Dasha Utama (a Jakarta-based investment company); PT Aero Systems Indonesia (formerly known as “PT Lufthansa Systems Indonesia”); and PT Dexa Medica. Prior to this, Kunthi worked in private practice with the Law Offices of Remy & Darus in Jakarta, having graduated in Law from the University of Trisakti, Jakarta.

Kunthi is a member of legal, tax and labor and the marketing practices sub-committee in the IPMG (International Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Group), as well as being a member of Pharmaceuticals Working Group in European Business Chamber of Commerce (EuroCham) in Indonesia. Recently, Kunthi was awarded the Novo Nordisk “Lawyer Of The Year 2014” for International Operations Region.

Satria Primaldi Hasymi (Aldi), General Counsel, OTP Geothermal

Aldi is currently Involved in 240 MW of geothermal exploration project in North Sumatera, Indonesia, operated by OTP Geothermal, a joint venture of Origin Energy Australia, Tata Power India and PT Supraco Indonesia.

Aldi is a registered Indonesian Advocate and an In-house counsel with ten years’ experience. He got his master from University of Indonesia majoring Economic Law and attended various workshops/courses, among others, “Contract Dispute and Management” (Malaysia) and “Management of Legal Risks and Services” (Singapore). He has experiences in managing litigation in Indonesia and in other jurisdictions (London, Singapore, New York).

Christopher Monahan, Chief Counsel - Asia Pacific, AECOM 

Prior to graduating law school, Chris spent approximately 10 years working as an engineer (civil, mechanical, and structural), a construction manager, and as a construction claims consultant for various commercial, residential, and public sector projects in Southern California.

After graduating from law school, Chris spent his first few years as a commercial litigator, focusing on construction and environmental matters. He then spent approximately 10 years working as a partner in the Construction and Real Estate Group at Morgan Miller & Blair in Walnut Creek, California.

In 2009, Chris joined URS Corp. as its Regional Legal Counsel for URS Asia-Pacific with oversight responsibility for the company’s legal affairs in Australia and New Zealand. In 2012, Chris was promoted to URS Group Legal Counsel for Asia & Asia-Pacific, with oversight responsibilities for URS’s offices in China, Hong Kong, India, Southeast Asia, Australia, New Zealand, and the Pacific Islands.

In 2015, after URS was acquired by AECOM, Chris was promoted to the position of AECOM Chief Legal Counsel for Asia-Pacific, with oversight responsibility for more than 30 legal staff in the Asia-Pacific region. 

Angela Hertiningtyas

Angela Hertingtyas, Indonesia Counsel, Procter & Gamble

Prior to joining P&G, Angela started my career in law firm in Indonesia majoring corporate laws for several years before becoming in-house counsel in a company engaged in fast food business. Angela is a member of PERADI (one of Indonesia Bar Association) and Indonesia Corporate Counsel Association (ICCA). In P&G, Angela is responsible to oversee, manage legal matters, and provide legal advices to all P&G businesses in Indonesia, related to corporate, commercial, employment, tax and custom issues, labour, compliance, manufacturing, litigations, and disputes.

 Rafael Wijayanto

Rafael Wijayanto, General Manager – Legal, MEC Coal

Rafael is currently General Manager Legal at M E C Coal, a joint venture company running integrated coal and infrastructure projects, a private railway and a private port, located in East Kutai, East Kalimantan Province. His role in this group of companies is to manage and coordinate all legal matters in relation with project financing plan, permit/licensing, compliance and operation stage of the project as well as land acquisition

Previously, he was Corporate Operation Affair Director at Godynamic Investments Limited, a lecturer at Lassalle College in Jakarta and The University of Melbourne, Law School, and between 2001-2010 was Principal – Of Counsel at Wijayanto & Partners – Jakarta

 

Rafael has a Master of International Business (MIB), and Master of Laws (LLM)from The University of Melbourne, and Bachelor of Law (SH) Parahyangan Catholic University, Indonesia

Lydia Tumbelaka, Director of Compliance & Corporate Affairs, Bank CIMB Niaga

Indonesian citizen, 51 years old. Appointed as Director of Compliance, Corporate Affairs and Legal CIMB Niaga on EGM 19 December 2008, effective on 4 February 2009 and re-appointed on AGM 28 March 2013.

Her banking career began in 1989 as a legal officer at Bank Central Asia, continued in PT Bank Niaga Tbk to hold various positions as Consumer Marketing Officer, Legal Division Head, Corporate Legal Group Head, and Head of Corporate Affairs. She served as a Partner at the law firm Bahar Tumbelaka & Partners, as well as a Legal Advisor in Bank Niaga for Special Asset Management Group in 1998 to 2000.

She holds a Bachelor degree in Law from the University of Indonesia.

Davidson Samosir, Editor-in-Chief, Hukum Online English Newsroom

Mr. Davidson is the Editor-in-Chief of Hukumonline English Newsroom. He has an extensive educational background both in law and communication science where he attended several universities including Atmajaya Catholic University acquiring Bachelor of Law in 2004. Master of Law from Universitas Indonesia in 2006. Law and Language program at the Friedrich-Schiller-Universität Jena (Germany) between 2008 to 2009, and also Media and Communication at the Technische Universität Ilmenau (Germany) between 2007 to 2008.

He had been admitted to the Indonesian Bar (PERADI) since 2007, and is currently pursuing his doctoral program at Universitas Pelita Harapan faculty of law, writing his dissertation in English titled “Media Independency and the Interest of Media-Owning Politicians: A Study of the 2014 General Election”

Ranajit Dam is the Managing Editor of Thomson Reuters’ Legal Media Group, which includes Asian Legal Business, Asia’s foremost monthly publication covering the legal industry. A former lawyer, he been a journalist for more than a decade, after graduating from Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism.
