Professor SHIN, HYEON TAK, Associate Professor, KOREA UNIVERSITY LAW SCHOOL

Prior to Prof. Shin’s current appointment he was Partner at Hwang Mok Park P.C.(“법무법인 충정”). His professional experience also includes Panel Member, Forum of National Assembly Research Service. Prof. Shin was invited to participate in the forum, “Clearing, Reporting, and Examination of OTC Derivatives,” for the amendment of the Capital Market and Financial Investment Business Act. He is registered as an Expert in the Fields of Finance and Commercial Law at Korean Bar Association. He has also been Government Lawyer, Ministry of Justice, Korea and Public Defender, Korea Legal Aid Corporation.

Prof. Shin received his J.S.D./LL.M. (Concentration: Corporate Governance & Corporate Finance) from School of Law, University of California, Berkeley; his Master of Law (Concentration: Commercial Law) from School of Korea University and his Bachelor of Law from College of Law, Korea University. He has been published many times in various journals including, most recently, Business Law Review- “Legal Effect from the Violation of the Prohibition Clause Against the Corporate Opportunity Usurpation – Focused on the Approval of the Board of Directors”; Commercial Cases Review- “Regulatory Change on the Acquisition of Company’s own Shares under the Amendment of the Commercial Act”; Korea Commercial Cases Review “A Study on the Term of Office of Acting Auditor Appointed by the Court” 

Nikolai Nahrgang

Nicolai Nahrgang, General Counsel & Regional Compliance Officer, CONTINENTAL AUTOMOTIVE KOREA

Dr. Nahrgang is General Counsel of Germany headquartered automotive supplier Continental Korea. He has responsibility for managing the legal and compliance affairs for the eight Korean Continental subsidiaries. Previously, from 2009 to April 2014, he was a senior foreign attorney at Korean law firm Kim & Chang.

Dr. Nahrgang started his legal career as an M&A lawyer in the corporate department of US law firm Weil Gotshal & Manges LL.P.’s Frankfurt/M. office. He holds a doctoral degree from the University of Heidelberg and a master degree from Cornell Law School. Dr. Nahrgang is licensed as attorney in Germany and New York. He is currently Vice Chairman of the CFO Forum of the ECCK (European Chamber of Commerce in Korea).

Scott Warren

Scott Warren, General Manager and Country Head, EPIQ SYSTEMS

A licensed US attorney, Scott began his legal career as a litigation attorney in California, moving to Japan in 1993. He spent 13 years as in-house counsel in Japan, serving as the first foreign general counsel for Sega Enterprises, and then as senior corporate attorney for Microsoft, getting Xbox launched in Asia. In those capacities, he also handled IP licensing, transactional agreements, anti-counterfeiting and anti-cybercrime efforts, employment matters and internal investigations. He was the Asia regional managing director of legal technologies for a large risk consultancy and technology company.

Scott now oversees Epiq Systems, a world leader in legal technologies, providing eDiscovery and document review services in Japan, working with corporations, and the law firms that support them, on issues where the Law and Technology collide.

                                                                Sven Erik Batenberg

Sven-Erik Batenburg, Head of Legal & Compliance, EUROPEAN CHAMBER OF COMMERCE IN KOREA

 

Sven-Erik Batenburg is Head of Legal & Compliance at the European Chamber of Commerce in Korea, a non-profit organisation for companies conducting business in or related to Korea. In such capacity, Mr. Batenburg operates amongst others ECCK’s IPR Committee, which serves as the prime communication channel with government authorities on IP matters, raises public awareness of IP challenges and provides assistance to member companies facing intellectual property issues.

 

As former Intellectual Property Manager at JT International, Mr. Batenburg was responsible for protecting and expanding the trademark portfolio of one of the company’s global flagship brands. Prior to that, he worked as Legal Staff at the Arbitration and Mediation Center of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), where he was in charge of the “.NL” domain name dispute resolution system. Mr. Batenburg holds a Master’s degree in Information Law from University of Amsterdam in the Netherlands.

Timothy Yoo

Timothy Yoo, Senior Litigation Counsel, CJ E & M

Timothy B. Yoo is a Senior Litigation Counsel and the head of international disputes at CJ E&M, Korea’s largest entertainment and media conglomerate, where he manages the company’s overseas litigation and arbitration matters.Prior to joining CJ E&M, Mr. Yoo was associated with a large international law firm, where he practiced complex commercial litigation with a focus on patent disputes. 

During his time as outside counsel, he represented a number of the world’s biggest tech companies in state and federal court as well as before administrative and arbitral tribunals. Mr. Yoo received his J.D. from the UC Berkeley School of Law. He is a member of the State Bar of California.

 

 Jungwook Kim

Jungwook Kim, Director Legal Operations & Business Development, GLAXOSMITHKLINE KOREA LIMITED

Jungwook (JW) Kim is a Director of GlaxoSmithKline Korea and heads the Legal and Business Development functions. JW Kim joined GSK in 2008 and has led the company’s efforts to seek creative partnerships and collaborations. He also focuses on healthcare and pharmaceutical practice and advises the company on a variety of issues and challenges brought on by the changing Korean healthcare and pharmaceutical environment.

Prior to joining GSK, JW Kim worked at the Investment Banking Division of Citigroup Global Markets as an investment banker for four years advising corporate clients on domestic and outbound M&A and capital markets transactions and at Kim & Chang as a corporate finance attorney for seven years advising on structured finance, capital markets and M&A transactions.

Sunny Park

Sunny J Park, Director Legal & Corporate Affairs, MICROSOFT KOREA  

Sunny J. Park currently heads the Legal & Corporate Affairs at Microsoft Korea, dealing with a wide variety of cutting-edge issues such as cyber security, privacy and digital copyright protection. She previously practiced law at firms such as Kim & Chang and Jipyoung & Jisung, and has hands-on business experience in the IT industry having served as the Managing Director of Mobile Internet business unit at Locus Technologies. She has J.D., M.B.A. and B.S., Marketing & Retailing from Syracuse University, U.S.A.

JiEun Lee

Ms. JiEun JE Lee, Head of Legal, Prudential Korea (PCALK)

JiEun joined Prudential in January 2013 as Head of legal. Before joining Prudential, she practiced as a legal professional with a diverse experience in the financial industry. After passing the Korean Bar in 1999, she began her career at Bae, Kim and Lee in the International Arbitration and Litigation group and Tax and Administrative Law Group. She worked for Suhyup Bank, Korean Development Bank and Shinhan Financial Group as an in-house counsel. She graduated from Georgetown University Law Center (Securities and Financial Regulations LLM) and is a member of Seoul and New York Bar. She is married with a boy and a girl.
