Mumbai-headquartered AZB & Partners has hired tax partner Sumit Mangal from Luthra & Luthra Law Offices in Delhi, to bring its partner count in the capital to 58.

Mangal is at least the fifth partner hire AZB has made in 2023, with Sudish Sharma, Sarah Jayne Rufus and Ajay Singh Solanki joining the firm earlier this year from Lakshmikumaran and Sridharan, IndiGo Airlines and Nishith Desai Associates respectively. AZB also launched a Chennai office in July after hiring a corporate team from J Sagar Associates led by partner Aarthi Sivanandh.

Mangal brings more than 15 years of experience in direct tax with a specialisation in international tax and transfer pricing, AZB said in a statement. He also handles disputes on foreign exchange control issues.

Luthra and Luthra also saw the departure of three-member tax team led by partner Ajinkya Gunjan Mishra to S&R Associates in April. The firm now lists Sanjeev Sachdeva as the only partner in its tax practice.
