UK firm Ashurst has hired Alexander Dmitrenko as a partner in Tokyo from Magic Circle firm Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, where he was head of Asia sanctions.

Dmitrenko is Ashurst’s first partner hire in Tokyo in five years. The last partner hired by that office prior to this was Tracy Whiriskey. who joined from Clifford Chance in July 2016.

Dmitrenko, who is also an adjunct professor at the Temple Law School, specialises in sanctions, export controls, anti-bribery, anti-money laundering, human rights, cyber security, product liability and other regulatory matters.

With Dmitrenko joining the firm, Ashurst now has five partners in Tokyo.
