International arbitration and intellectual property attorney Douglas Clark has joined Hong Kong-based Tanner De Witt as a partner to bolster the law firm’s IP and dispute resolution practices.

Clark was the global leader of UK-headquartered law firm Rouse’s dispute resolution practice for over two years before quitting last year to start his own firm, Douglas Clark LLP, which focused on IP litigation and arbitration.

He brings over 30 years of experience in China’s IP market, having previously spent close to two decades at global law firm Hogan Lovells, including as leader of the firm’s IP practice in China and as managing partner of the firm’s Shanghai office.

Clark specialises in patent infringement cases in the pharmaceutical and telecommunication sectors, particularly those involving Fair, Reasonable and Non-Discriminatory (FRAND) terms in standard essential patents. He has also served as arbitrator or counsel in numerous patent and high technology arbitrations. Clark also advises clients on technology transfer agreements and IP audits.

“Doug is renowned for being able to navigate the intricate landscapes of IP law, his in-depth understanding of trademark, copyright and patents coupled with his unwavering commitment to staying ahead in an ever-evolving legal landscape, we eagerly welcome him aboard, confident that his presence will propel the growth of this practice area,” said Pamela Mak, partner and co-head of dispute resolution at Tanner De Witt, in a statement.
