Timur Sukirno, formerly senior partner and head of disputes at Baker McKenzie’s Indonesian member firm, Hadiputranto, Hadinoto & Partners (HHP), has retired from the firm to join troubled flag carrier Garuda Indonesia as president commissioner.

Sukirno, who is the founder of the Indonesian Receivers and Administrators Association, has expertise in insolvency and restructuring processes. He spent more than three decades at HHP.

In June, Garuda said it had debt of 70 trillion rupiah ($4.9 billion), which is forecast to continue growing by 1 trillion rupiah every month that the pandemic is set to continue. The airline is currently  undergoing restructuring, with law firms Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton and Assegaf Hamzah & Partners advising it on strategy going forward.
