Herbert Smith Freehills has hired energy expert Anthony Patten as a senior partner in Singapore from King & Spalding, where he was a partner.

The move is the latest in a string of energy lawyer hires by international law firms in the Asia-Pacific region as they respond. In this month alone, Hogan Lovells hired Matthew Bubb as the head of its infrastructure, energy, resources, and projects practice for the Asia-Pacific region, while Jones Day welcomed energy expert Paul Greening as a partner in Singapore from Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld.

With more than 20 years of experience, Patten advises clients in the upstream, midstream and downstream oil and gas sectors on project development. He joined King & Spalding in 2020 from Shearman & Sterling, prior to which he was at Allens in Australia and Ashurst in London.

Patten’s arrival means HSF now has 23 partners in Singapore. They include Peiwen Chen, who joined from White & Case earlier this month.
