Malaysian law firm Adnan Sundra & Low (ASL) has significantly bolstered its intellectual property capabilities with the addition of a five-member IP, sports, and gaming group from local rival Christopher & Lee Ong (CLO), led by practice head Sri Sarguna Raj.

Raj’s team joining ASL comprises partners Steven Cheok Hou Cher and Nicole Chong, senior associate An Qi Soo, and junior associate Lim Chaw Zen.

Raj has over two decades of experience in the sports and IP law space in Malaysia, having spent time at Shearn Delamore & Co, Wong & Partners and Skrine. He was the managing partner of boutique IP law firm Kandiah & Sri, which he co-founded, before the firm merged with CLO in 2015.

Raj’s IP practice comprises both contentious and non-contentious work. He assists clients in relation to disputes relating to patents, copyrights, privacy and trade secrets, trademarks, industrial designs, advertising, and domain names. His non-litigation work includes drafting and advising on IP issues in corporate and commercial transactions, particularly in relation to licensing, franchising, regulatory advice, entertainment, sponsorship, and merchandising.

“The inclusion of Sri, his team, and this new area of practice into the firm demonstrates more than just the expansion of our firm's services. It is a strategic step to ensure our leadership in the dynamic legal landscape of Malaysia, reflecting our commitment to innovation, excellence, and delivering comprehensive, broad-ranging legal solutions to our clients,” the firm said in a statement.

ASL lost a five-partner corporate team to CLO earlier this year.
