Japan’s largest law firm, Nishimura & Asahi, has hired corporate specialist Jason Jose R. Jiao as a partner in Tokyo from Oh-Ebashi LPC & Partners. Jiao is the first Philippines-qualified partner in Nishimura’s Tokyo office.

With more than two decades of experience in Japan, Jiao specialises in advising public and private companies on corporate and commercial matters, particularly on cross-border mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, and reorganisations. Also qualified in New York, Jiao is experienced in international arbitration, corporate disputes, and IP transactions, amongst others.

Prior to joining Nishimura, Jiao was a partner at Oh-Ebashi LPC & Partners for around eight years. He started his career at Manila-based Angara Abello Concepcion Regala and Cruz Law Offices (ACCRALAW) in 2002.

Recently, Nishimura has been doubling down on investment in Southeast Asia, including the Philippines. In September, the Japanese domestic giant entered into an association with Sy & Partners in the Philippines to better facilitate inbound and outbound investment between the jurisdictions.

Nishimura currently has a presence in seven cities in the region – either through its own office or an association firm - in Singapore, Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Jakarta and Yangon.
