Singapore boutique law firm Bih Li & Lee has welcomed back energy sector specialist Marina Chua as a partner from Amazon Web Services, where she was a corporate counsel in the energy division.

Apart from Amazon, the world’s biggest corporate purchaser of renewable energy, Chua has also held in-house roles in the LNG Marketing division of ExxonMobil, and at Pavilion Energy. She began her career as an associate at Bih Li & Lee, leaving the firm in 2014.

During her decade in the energy industry, Chua gained expertise in the renewable energy and LNG sectors. Her experience includes structuring agreements on renewable energy and carbon offsets across the Asia-Pacific region, including first-of-its-kind agreements with state-owned entities, the firm said in a statement.

Within the LNG sector, Chua has advised on and negotiated agreements across the LNG value chain, such as LNG sale and purchase agreements, terminal use agreements and gas supply agreements.

“We are thrilled to welcome Marina back to the firm. Marina’s background and pedigree experience in the energy sector is a real asset for us and aligns with the strategic direction of the firm. We see the renewable energy sector as an area of huge potential in Asia. This hire adds to a very exciting period of growth for us,” said Tee Lee Lian, managing partner of Bih Li & Lee, in the statement.

Founded in 1992, Bih Li & Lee initially specialised in litigation and dispute. The firm currently also offers services in practice areas such as corporate and commercial, energy, family and private client services, and real estate.

With Chua’s return, the firm now has 13 fee-earners, including six partners.
