UK-headquartered maritime firm Hill Dickinson has hired trade and commodities specialists Devottam Sengupta and Iain Sharp as partners in Singapore. Both join from in-house roles.

Sengupta, who was most recently at now-bankrupt Anglo-Australian financial services company Greensill Capital, specialises in trade finance and commodities. He will work with Hill Dickinson’s Singapore team as well the firm’s shipping and trade lawyers in London, Hong Kong, and Greece.

Prior to relocating to Singapore in 2015, Sengupta worked with Indian law firms Trilegal and the erstwhile Amarchand & Mangaldas & Suresh A Shroff & Co. Additionally, he has held in-house roles at organisations like Louis Dreyfus Company and Cargill.

Meanwhile, Sharp moves from commodities trading house Gunvor Group, where he was head of legal for Asia-Pacific. He focuses on litigation, international arbitration, negotiation, and ADR related to international trade and commodities.

Before joining Gunvor in 2016, Sharp was a partner at multiple law firms, including Dentons Rodyk, the legacy Bryan Cave, Kennedys, and RPC.

Following the hires of Sharp and Sengupta, Hill Dickinson now has six partners in Singapore. They include Jonathan Goacher, who moved from DWF in November last year.
