Tokyo-headquartered firm Anderson Mori & Tomotsune (AMT) has hired David MacArthur as a senior foreign counsel in the international arbitration practice and will be operating out of the firm’s Tokyo and Singapore offices from Bae Kim & Lee (BKL) where he was a partner in Seoul.

The appointment comes days after AMT became the first Japan Big Four firm to allow foreign lawyers to become equity partners after it launched a foreign law joint enterprise.

MacArthur, who was with BKL for nearly 15 years, has advised clients in disputes across Asia, Europe and North America.

MacArthur’s exit is the second partner-level departure from BKL in less than a month. In January, senior partner John Bang left the firm to join Peter & Kim as a senior partner.
