Singapore Big Four law firm Allen & Gledhill is advising Vanguard International Semiconductor Corporation (VIS) on its proposed $7.8 billion joint venture with NXP Semiconductors, which is being represented by A&O Shearman.

The joint venture aims to construct a new 300mm semiconductor wafer manufacturing facility in Singapore, producing 130nm to 40nm mixed-signal, power management, and analogue products, targeting automotive, industrial, consumer, and mobile markets.

This development comes as Singapore continues to strengthen its role in the global tech supply chain, particularly in low-end chip manufacturing crucial for electric vehicles, smartphones, and other devices.

The city-state currently accounts for over 10 percent of global chip production and about 20 percent of semiconductor equipment manufacturing, and is the largest production hub outside the United States for U.S.-based firms such as Applied Materials and Micron.

The A&G team advising VIS includes partners Richard Young, Zhao Jiawei, Yeo Boon Kiat, Elsa Chen, and Peh Aik Hin.

The A&O team is being led by partner Tess Fang, and includes senior associate Matthew Gee and counsel Jackson Allen. Partners Noah Brumfield and Nigel Parker are advising on antitrust and IP, respectively.
