Japanese law firm TMI Associates has entered into a formal association with Indonesia’s Frans & Setiawan, which had been part of TMI’s international network since it launched in June 2019.

The new association means TMI now has seven offices in Southeast Asia, with the others being in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Phnom Penh, Yangon, Bangkok, and Singapore.

Frans & Setiawan Law Office in association with TMI Associates will be led by TMI regional partner Eisuke Saito and F&S representative partner Alfin Frans Nainggolan. Saito advises on corporate matters including M&A, disputes and anti-monopoly.

The Indonesian firm was set up by Frans and Hendra Setiawan Boen, and the firm advises on general corporate, commercial and disputes. It was recently named one of ALB's Indonesia Firms to Watch 2023.

Most leading Japanese firms have associations in Indonesia now. Mori Hamada & Matsumoto opened an office in Jakarta through an association with ATD Law in January in 2023, followed by Nagashima Ohno & Tsunematsu via an association with IM & Partners. Prior to them, Nishimura & Asahi established its second alliance there with Walalangi & Partners in 2018, while Anderson Mori & Tomotsune set up an association with H&A Partners in 2020.
