Winston & Strawn has opened its doors in Taipei, adding to its existing Asian offices in Hong Kong, Beijing and Shanghai.

Partner John Alison will head the Taipei office, and will split his time between Taiwan and Washington, D.C.

The office will initially focus on advising Taiwanese companies in the technology and pharmaceutical industries on U.S. International Trade Commission Section 337 investigations – which often include claims over intellectual property rights – as well as U.S. district court cases involving IP and antitrust claims.

“Our overall goals for Asia include building our presence in intellectual property, corporate, antitrust, energy, and disputes,” said David Hall-Jones, Winston & Strawn’s Asia managing partner, in a statement.

Chicago-headquartered Winston & Strawn has 18 offices across North America, Europe and Asia.
