Andrew Chew has joined Baker & McKenzie as partner in its Sydney construction practice and a member of the firm's specialist infrastructure group. Chew previously worked at Mallesons Stephen Jaques as special counsel.

Chew is the fourth infrastructure-related partner that Baker & McKenzie has brought onboard from other major Australian law firms in the last 12 months.

He joins Geoff Wood (construction and infrastructure) from Mallesons, Alex Hartmann (construction and infrastructure) from DLA Phillips Fox and John Mollard (resources and major projects) from Blake Dawson.

“This represents another significant step in the continuing expansion of our Australian and regional infrastructure and construction practices,” Bakers’ national managing partner Mark Chapple said.

Chew is a qualified engineer and has worked on a number of major infrastructure projects over his 15 years as a lawyer, including acting for successful bidders for the Peninsula Link project, the Mitcham-Frankston Freeway, the North-South By-pass Tunnel, the Western Sydney Orbital toll-road project, the Chatswood Transport Interchange, the Sunbury Rai Electrification Alliance Project, and the supply of the Outer Suburban Trains to RailCorp, as well as advising on the US$5bn Saudi Landbridge project, on documentation for the Sydney desalination plant and on the financing for the Defence Single LEAP.
