This is an exciting in-house opportunity with the Shanghai office of a global sports agency that has long-term partnerships with global sports organizations and brands. 

Our client's business in China focuses on connecting global sporting assets with Chinese brands; providing creative, activation, evalutation, analysis servies for Chinese and international brands interested in leveraging sport; strategic consulting services to international rights holders entering the China market; event consulting and services to local government and large Chinese firms with government ties.

Duties and Areas of Responsibility:

  • Providing legal support and advice to the group’s business activities in China based on an understanding of the local laws and business environment in China.
  • Drafting, modifying, reviewing, negotiating and advising on a broad range of commercial and corporate contracts both in English and Chinese relating to the exploitation of commercial rights and services for various sporting events, teams, athletes and other partners and stakeholders
  • Providing professional advice on legal matters arising from the group’s corporate structure and operations in China and assisting management of contractual, labour and other disputes.
  • Providing legal support and advice on general corporate and company secretarial matters, coordinating contract management and archiving.
  • Developing and updating legal precedents as required and assisting in establishing and improving various rules and regulations of the company.
  • Liaising with external counsel and regional offices on a variety of legal matters and delivering timely feedback.
  • Advising on and supervising compliance matters relating to the group’s China business.
  • Supporting the implementation of training and the advocacy of policies.
  • Reporting regularly and as required on all legal and compliance matters to the General Counsel Asia and MD China.

 Candidate must: 

  • Be an enthusiastic and hard-working team player;
  • Hold a law degree and be qualified to practice law in China;
  • Have at least 3 years’ experience working in a commercial in-house environment, preferably in the sports/media/entertainment sector in China;
  • Be solution-driven and possess excellent drafting and communication skills;
  • Be experienced in handling legal proceedings and contract execution with foreign enterprises; and
  • Be fluent in spoken and written Mandarin and English in order to read, interpret, draft, modify and review legal documents in both English & Chinese.
