The much-awaited ALB Japan Law Awards is returning for its 16th edition this year, on September 24 with an all new format of celebration – virtual awards ceremony. The annual celebration will continue to give recognition to outstanding legal practitioners, top law firms and most important deals from within and around Japan. 

This year, about 60 law firms and in-house teams have entered submissions, with close to 10 new participants. In the nomination process, most popular categories go to Young Lawyer of the Year, Dealmaker of the Year, Banking and Financial Services Law Firm of the Year and Energy and Resources Law Firm of the Year.

Law firms leading the nominations are Anderson Mori & Tomotsune, Atsumi & Sakai, Mori Hamada & Matsumoto, Nagashima Ohno & Tsunematsu, and Nishimura & Asahi, while local law firms showing their first appearance include Catherine O'Connell Law, EY Law, Miura & Partners, Tokyo International Law Office and ZeLo.

On the in-house side, various local established and international corporates are participating this year, such as Airbnb, Broadcom, FedEx, IBM Japan, INPEX Corporation, LINE, and new joiners Hitachi-Johnson Controls Air Conditioning, JERA, Nissan Motor and UiPath.

Our panel of judges comprises more than 25 esteemed individuals from the region’s academia, in-house teams, law firms and legal associations. The finalists with the highest score in each category will win the title, with the results being revealed on the day of the virtual awards ceremony.
