Startup name: LegalDesk.com

Year of founding: 2014

Headquarters: Bengaluru, India

Founders: Krupesh Bhat & Ashok Kadsur

What it does: A do-it-yourself (DIY) legal drafting platform that helps individuals draft legal agreements using its system at its heart. LegalDesk now provides a suite of legal-related services.

Markets served: About 15 states in India

Capital raised till date: Currently in a bootstrapping phase and exploring fundraising options with investors

Key clients: A B2C startup, it receives more than 120,000 visitors a month and claims to have more than 30,000 customers

How the idea came about: When Bhat moved back to India after having spent a decade in the U.S., he was surprised at the low level of technology adoption in the Indian legal and government sectors. He perceived a large gap where technology could play a significant role in solving those problems. Along with his classmate Ashok Kadsur, he founded LegalDesk.

The journey so far: The company started with a DIY system to draft legal agreements and evolved into a complete legal platform that customers can use to draft, opt for stamp paper services and electronically sign their documents. It also offers incorporation and trademark services and has connected legal service providers with customers. Its customers can use templates for documents such as rental agreements, power of attorney, wills and more than a hundred others. The startup is also actively working with the central government to digitise and simplify some documentation procedures such as notarisations and registrations.

What clients say:

Susheel Kumar  “I have been using Legal Desk for close to a year now for my rental agreement needs. It's quick and affordable. For those who don’t mind using DIY online tools, this portal gives you complete freedom to do so with a simple user interface.

They also have a host of other products such as affidavits, commercial agreements, registration packages for startups and so on. Nearly all my agreements need to be customised according to specific requirements, which the website allows me to do. If you're looking for a one-stop-shop portal for all your legal documentation needs, these guys do a fair job."
