King & Wood Mallesons has expanded its Tokyo team with two new partners: arbitration specialist Patric McGonigal, who is relocating from Singapore, and corporate expert Ryunosuke Ushijima, who joins from local firm Miyake, Ushijima & Imamura, where he was a name partner.

McGonigal, who joined KWM earlier this year, was previously with Hill Dickinson in the UK and Hogan Lovells in Tokyo. He spent more than a decade with the legacy Barlow Lyde & Gilbert, which later merged with Clyde & Co, in Singapore and the UK. McGonigal’s areas of expertise include commercial, international trade, construction and infrastructure, energy and resources, anti-bribery and corruption, and shipping and insurance matters.

Ushijima, who focuses on cross-border contracts, international dispute resolution and antitrust law, joined Miyake & Yamazaki – as it was called then – in 1997, and became a partner in 2002.

KWM’s Tokyo office currently has nearly 20 lawyers, including eight partners and two counsels.
