Magic Circle firm Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer has hired Matthew O’Callaghan in Hong Kong as co-head of its financial services practice in Asia from Goldman Sachs, where he was managing director and senior counsel.

O’Callaghan previously had a one-year stint at the UK firm, before spending more than 14 years at Goldman Sachs.

The appointment of O’Callaghan by Freshfields’s Hong Kong office comes shortly after the exit of partner Richard Blair, who joined U.S. private equity giant The Blackstone Group as general counsel.
