Indonesia’s rapidly proliferating legal market has a new entrant as tax and trade attorney Riza Buditomo leaves the partnership at Armand Yapsunto Muharamsyah & Partners (AYMP) to launch Anagata Law Firm, which will focus on corporate, commercial, trade and tax work. 

Buditomo, who will serve as managing partner, has over twenty years of experience in tax and trade, including customs practice groups.  He advises clients on foreign investments and M&A mandates. At AYMP, he was the founder and leader of the trade, logistics, and tax practice. Previously, he was head of the trade and customs practice at Baker McKenzie’s Indonesian member firm HHP Law. 

Joining Buditomo as founding partners are Muhammad Ramzi, a former associate at AYMP, and Marvin Octavdio, who previously worked as an associate at Assegaf Hamzah & Partners. Ramzi specialises in corporate, commercial, and trade-related matters, while Octavdio focuses on domestic and cross-border tax law.

The team is further strengthened by of counsel Mochamad Fachri, who has more than 25 years of experience advising domestic and international companies on Indonesian corporate law for private entities. His expertise includes establishment, market entry issues, and corporate governance challenges. He also advises on merger transactions reviewed by the KPPU, including those that have been subject to KPPU challenges.

All four key lawyers were previously colleagues at HHP Law. 

Apart from them, Rinaldi Raymond, who has also previously been associated with the key founding members at HHP Law, joins as head of the customs practice from AYMP.

In addition, the firm also has one counsel and three associates. 

“Anagata offers not only from legal point of view but also from technical point of view because many of our team have background other than legal such as accounting and tax, finance and economy. What differentiates us is that we can provide a complete advice from multiple angles,” Buditomo told ALB. 

The firm’s focus areas will include tax and customs, trade and logistics, corporate M&A, corporate commercial and compliance, antitrust, and intellectual property. Anagata has offices in both Jakarta and Surabaya. 

Anagata’s desk office in Surabaya aims to assist new businesses in East Indonesia, particularly with the region's dynamic developments, including the new capital, Ibu Kota Nusantara (IKN). “The development of East Indonesia and the new capital in IKN presents numerous opportunities for businesses. These include infrastructure projects, real estate development, investment in new industries, and the expansion of existing businesses to cater to the growing population and economic activities in the region,” the firm said.
