Chinese law firm Wang Jing & GH has opened an office in Hong Kong, becoming the latest mainland Chinese legal practice to establish a presence in the Asian financial hub.

The Guangzhou-based firm's expansion follows the launch of Beijing-headquartered DOCVIT’s Hong Kong office in June. There are now 31 PRC law firms operating as foreign law firms in the city.

Sam Wong, Wang Jing & GH's founding partner and chairman, will serve as the managing partner of the Hong Kong office. Wong, who specializes in real estate and corporate commercial legal services, will oversee the firm's fifth international branch.

The Hong Kong office will initially operate with a lean structure, focusing on providing Chinese legal services to both domestic and international clients, the firm told Asian Legal Business.

"Hong Kong's unique status as a legal hub and international financial centre, along with its institutional advantages, plays a crucial role in our internationalization strategy," a spokesperson for Wang Jing & GH said.

The firm also maintains offices in Bangkok, Los Angeles, Sydney, and Tokyo.

This expansion trend highlights the increasing integration between mainland Chinese and Hong Kong legal markets, as PRC firms seek to leverage the city's position as a gateway to international business opportunities.

In April this year, the Hong Kong office of PRC law firm Guantao entered into an association with local firm Gallant with the aim of better-serving clients when it comes to cross-border legal work, especially in relation to the Greater Bay Area.
