In the face of the many disruptions of the past few years, the impressive lawyers in this year’s list, hailing from Japan to India, continued to shine. Based in Seoul, Jeonghye Sophie Ahn has spent 17 years in legal practice and is currently at Yulchon. With a degree from Harvard Law School under her belt, she is a director of the International Association of Korean Lawyers, a director of the Korean International Trade Law Association and a member of the Executive Committee of the Korean Director of the Korean Council for International Arbitration. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Ahn was among the first in the legal world to adapt to the changes and helped demonstrate that virtual hearings can indeed be conducted efficiently and fairly. On the other side of Asia, in Singapore, Sandy Foo has a solid 25 years of experience in the legal world and is currently with Rajah & Tann. She has won a slew of other awards. Back in 2016, Foo acted for Temasek in the multi-billion dollar privatisation of Singapore’s multi-modal public transport operator SMRT through a scheme of arrangement in a high-profile deal valued SMRT at approximately S$2.57 billion. Hoang Nguyen Ha Quyen is a senior member of LNT & Partners Law Firm in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. FWD Group, a regional insurance corporation, acquired Vietnam-Cardif Life Insurance, a life insurance joint venture between Vietcombank and BNP Paribas Cardif. Hoang was the local lead partner in this transaction, along with another international law firm. She and her team at LNT & Partners had to navigate complicated insurance legislation and liaise with regulators. Based in India’s financial capital of Mumbai, Arushi Jain is a partner at Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas, focused on media, education and gaming. At 36, she has spent 14 years in the legal industry. She was named the Young Lawyer of the Year (Law Firm) 2022 by Asian Legal Business. Jain acted as legal counsel for leading Bollywood studio Ajay Devgn FFilms and Panorama Studios’ movie “Bholaa”, which was a remake of the South Indian blockbuster “Kaithi”.
