U.S. law firm Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher has hired Hagen Rooke as a partner in its financial regulatory practice group in Singapore from Reed Smith, where he had been a partner since 2022.

The hire comes after a series of partner departures from Gibson Dunn's Singapore office. Most recently, Scott Jalowayski, founder of the firm’s Asia private equity practice group, left to return to Morrison & Foerster. In November, Paul Tan, former head of arbitration for Asia, moved to One Essex Court, and energy partner Brad Roach departed for K&L Gates Straits Law.

Earlier in 2024, San Francisco-headquartered Rimon Law recruited Troy Doyle as chair of its global restructuring group. Doyle previously served as co-head of Gibson Dunn's business restructuring and reorganisation practice.

Rooke, who specialises in financial regulation and fintech, brings experience advising global financial institutions and corporates on regulatory matters. His expertise spans financial services licensing, conduct of business, regulatory change projects, and regulatory investigations and enforcement.

“We have seen rapid growth in our financial regulatory and fintech practices, and Hagen's arrival will add firepower to our team,” said William Hallatt, co-chair of Gibson Dunn's financial regulatory practice group, in a statement.

Rooke joined Reed Smith in 2019 from Linklaters, where he spent nearly seven years, rising to the position of managing associate. He began his career at CMS Cameron McKenna in London.

With Rooke’s addition, Gibson Dunn now has five partners based full-time in Singapore.
