Skrine reigned supreme at the 2017 ALB Malaysia Law Awards (MLA), scoring six wins at the prestigious event, now on its fourth year. The firm scooped up awards for categories including Malaysia Law Firm of the Year, Aviation Law Firm of the Year and Litigation Law Firm of the Year.

Other firms also had a strong showing at the gala awards dinner, which was held at the InterContinental Kuala Lumpur on April 6. Adnan Sundra & Low picked up several gongs, including Banking/Financial Law Firm of the Year and Islamic Finance Deal of the Year. Wong & Partners also shone, particularly in the individual categories, with partners Ee Von Teo and Munir Abdul Aziz being hailed as Young Lawyer of the Year and Dealmaker of the Year, respectively. Meanwhile, the International Deal Firm of the Year prize went to Ashurst.

MLA received the highest number of participants for the in-house award categories, which were re-introduced this year. MEASAT Broadcast Network Systems Technology was chosen as the Malaysia In-House Team of the Year and also nabbed the award for Media and Telecommunications In-House Team of the Year. Maybank, which also won two deal awards, was honored as the Banking and Financial Services In-House Team of the Year while Choo Suit Mae of Sime Darby was named In-House Lawyer of the Year.

New award categories were launched this year, such as Woman Lawyer of the Year – an honor that went to Albar & Partners’ Lily Tan Chea Li – as well as East Malaysia Law Firm of the Year and West Malaysia Law Firm of the Year awards, which went to S.K. Ling & Tan Advocates and Adnan Sundra & Low, respectively.
