Japanese law firm Nishimura & Asahi and PRC firm Fangda Partners have represented U.S. vision systems company Cognex on its $273.5 million deal to buy optical component producer Moritex Corporation from Chinese private equity firm Trustar Capital, which was advised by Anderson Mori & Tomotsune.

This is Cognex’s largest acquisition to date, and is expected to increase its market presence in Japan.

The Nishimura & Asahi team advising Cognex was led by partners James Campbell, Stephen D. Bohrer, Taro Hirosawa, Hiroki Kaga, Yotaro Takayama, Phan Thien Huong, and Melissa Tan, director of Bayfront Law, the Singapore alliance firm of Nishimura.

Corporate partners Norman Zhong and Hao Zhang led the Fangda team that served as Cognex’s PRC counsel.

Major Japanese law firm TMI Associates has entered into an alliance with Malaysian law firm SY Teo & Co, set up by Sze Yi Teo, an associate in TMI’s Singapore office. The alliance will also establish an office in Kuala Lumpur under the name of SY Teo & Co in Association with TMI Associates.
