Fast expanding Southeast Asian firm VDB Loi has hired Graham Garven, most recently a partner with KPMG Indonesia, as it looks to bolster its tax practice in that country.

Garven, who has more than 15 years of experience in Indonesia, became a partner at KPMG in 2009. He also launched the firm’s award-winning transfer-pricing practice.

Experienced in dispute resolution, transactional work and M&A, Garven has been involved in due diligence and structuring work for high profile deals in several sectors, including financial services, FMCG and airlines.  He has advised on local and international private equity transactions and assisted new entrants to the Indonesian market.

VDB Loi operates in Indonesia as Larasati & Manullang in association with VDB Loi. The tie-up was announced in June last year.

“Graham has that rare combination of skills; he has structured many cross-border deals and transactions, but he also has that special frontline experience you get only from dealing with tax audits and challenges from the authorities,” said Jean Loi, VDB Loi’s managing partner, in a statement. “His skill set fits very well with our firm’s specialty in transactions and taxation.”

Launched in March 2012, VDB Loi, now has 60 fee earners, and recently made a push into Myanmar, in addition to its key markets in Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam.
