India’s HSA Advocates has hired Ashutosh Gupta as its chief strategy officer from the Delhi office of Economic Laws Practice, where he was a partner.

Prior to his time at ELP, Gupta was a director – business strategy at Khaitan & Co, and also had a stint as a senior consultant at KPMG.

Gupta’s hire comes at a time of change for HSA. In April, a spate of lawyers departed for DSK Legal, including six partners. Its managing partner, Amitabh Sharma, also left, after which the firm’s founder, Hemant Sahai, returned to lead HSA. Since then, the firm has begun replenishing its ranks in various cities.

At HSA, Gupta will lead the strategic planning and business development efforts of the firm. He has more than 15 years of experience in management consulting and change management.

“Law firms need to continually adapt to the external environment impacting our industry and respond suitably to the emerging opportunities,” said Sahai. “Ashutosh brings with him this experience that will be vital to our growth.”
