Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas (CAM) has appointed disputes expert Omar Ahmad as a partner in New Delhi from national rival Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas (SAM), where he was principal associate. Ahmad joins with a team of three associates.

Ahmad’s appointment is the latest in a series of lateral movements between CAM and SAM. Recently, Akila Agrawal was hired by CAM as the head of its M&A practice from SAM. Prior to that corporate partner Mukul Sharma moved from SAM to CAM, while corporate partner Nivedita Tiwari moved in the other direction.

After the legacy Amarchand & Mangaldas & Suresh A. Shroff & Co. split into CAM and SAM in 2015, they had initially agreed not to compete for each other’s lawyers. However, since last year, the two firms have escalated their attempts to lure talent from each other, as evidenced by the significant number of lateral hires.

With more than eight years of experience on commercial disputes, Ahmad has represented clients from various sectors in domestic and international arbitrations seated outside India. He joined the legacy Amarchand Mangaldas in May 2010.
