Each year, ALB invites an independent judging panel of senior and expert legal industry leaders from various sectors corresponding to the diverse list of award categories. ALB is pleased to introduce some of the distinguished judges.
Aldi Pagaruyung
Region Counsel, HP Inc.
Legal Professional with over than 16 years in the industry. Started his career in a lawfirm and proceeds to work in various business sectors which includes telecommunication, mining, and IT companies. Currently serving as Region Counsel for HP Inc as legal head for overall go to market business strategies, litigation portfolio, and compliance for Indonesia, Philippines & Pakistan (IPP) whilst also double hatting as Personal System (PS) Market Liaison for Greater Asia & Greater China which oversees products governances, processes, strategic alliances, and initiatives for both regions.
Anggia Rukmasari

Anggia graduated cum laude from Universitas Padjadjaran and The Institute of Air and Space Law, Leiden University, the Netherlands. Having more than 14 years of experience, she is well known for her natural ability to deal with complex strategic deals at both the national and international level especially in the infrastructure and transportation sectors. Handa S. Abidin, S.H., LL.M., Ph.D. is the Vice Rector for Academics at President University. He is also a Partner at AMAR Law Firm & Public Interest Law Office. He is one of the judges of the ALB SE Asia Law Awards 2018-2022 and ALB Indonesia Law Awards 2015 & 2017-2022. He graduated from Universitas Indonesia, the George Washington University, and the University of Edinburgh.

Josef Sunario
Group Head of Legal Affairs, PT Datang DSSP Power Indonesia
Josef Sunario is a legal professional with over fifteen years of experience in various industries. He had been entrusted with various roles during his career, starting as an intern at Hadiputranto, Hadinoto & Partners; and then as associate at Bahar & Partners, providing legal advice to various clients which cover a broad range of corporate matters, such as energy, mining, infrastructure, merger and acquisitions, general corporate and project financing. During his time period working at Bahar and Partners, he was seconded for one year at a major coal mining company on site in East Kalimantan, giving him the opportunity to obtain first-hand knowledge and understanding on the energy industry. Aspiring to become an integral part of the business, he further went in-house as Corporate Legal Manager of PT Surya Semesta Internusa Tbk, a public listed company engaged in the business of commercial real estates, hospitality (including Gran Melia Jakarta, Melia Bali), construction services and industrial parks. His experience in the energy industry during his early years brings him to the next path as in-house legal counsel at Chevron IndoAsia Business Unit, exposed to various assignments to provide legal support across the business unit's operation from onshore operation to offshore operation, and further expanded to compliance, commercial, development projects, joint operations and PSC-related matters. After more than 10 years with Chevron IndoAsia Business Unit, Josef expanded the spectrum of his legal career by moving to another industry as Head of Legal of PT Anugerah Pharmindo Lestari (a member of the Zuellig Pharma), a major pharmaceutical distribution company providing healthcare products across all provinces in Indonesia. Currently, Josef is entrusted as the Group Head - Legal Affairs of PT Datang DSSP Power Indonesia, leading the Legal Division in providing legal support to the power generation business, operating power plants with total capacity of 600MW in Kalimantan, Sulawesi and Sumatra (Indonesia).
Nova Herlangga Masrie
Senior Legislative Drafter, Ministry of Investment/Indonesia Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM)
Nova has been working at BKPM for more than 14 years. Right now he serves as Senior Legislative Drafter and coordinate the legal bureau team in handling legal sue to the Minister brought by the investors. In this position, he also gives advice on legal and regulatory issues to the related unit in BKPM and other institutions. Prior to this position, he was a Head Section in the Investment Cooperation Directorate that has a task in negotiating bilateral and regional investment treaty between Indonesia and dialogue partner. He was a member of Indonesian delegation in some investment treaty/agreement negotiations. He obtained his law degree from University of Parahyangan (2003) and master degree from University of Indonesia (2005). In addition, he also teaches Introduction of Indonesian Law at Faculty of Law, Jakarta University since 2016.

He is a registered Indonesian advocate, member of the Indonesian Advocates Association (PERADI). Currently, works for PT Novartis Indonesia as Country Legal Head. He comes with more than 19 years of relevant, solid experience in multinational companies and private practices. Before joining Novartis, he was with one of the leading pharmaceutical and healthcare distribution companies. Prior to that, he worked as an in-house counsel and head of legal for several companies from shipping, distribution, finance, and heavy machinery industries. Before joining as in-house counsel, he worked at several law firms and in two International Organizations i.e. the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund, where he gained another perspective on law development and practices.

He started the career in one of Law Firm in Jakarta. Currently serves as VP / Group Head Legal – Contract Management at PT XL Axiata Tbk, one of the leading multinational telco company, with the main credential is to manage the implementation of Contract Management for the entire company activities through the development and implementation of a sophisticated and AI-based Contract Life-Cycle Management System (CLM System). Previously, Yudha was a Group General Manager Corporate Legal & Corporate Secretary of OMNI Hospitals Group for more than 4 years, with the main role was leading and handling all of the legal aspects over the 6 entities (affiliates), and got the double assignment as the Head Legal of the New Hospital & Real Estate (NHRE) within the Group. Before his tenure in OMNI Hospitals Group, Yudha served AirAsia Indonesia as Head of Legal & Compliance for more than 6 years, and assigned a double role as a Director in one of AirAsia affiliate company in property management business.

Fika spent 1st half of her lawyering journey working in law firms handling corporate M&A and foreign investment, taking care of multinational clients from various industries e.g. healthcare, TMT, FMCG, agriculture, real estate and private equity. After 6.5 years working at law firms, Fika decided to move on as an in-house counsel. Fika started her in-house counsel role at Gojek to manage mostly fund-raising deals, investor relations and corporate affairs. Afterward she worked at Sephora in which she collaborated with the Sephora Regional Legal Team to manage 9 markets i.e. Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Philippines, India, South Korea, Australia and New Zealand. Currently Fika is heading the Indonesia Legal team of dentsu International group. dentsu is an integrated agency network, combining best-in-class services and solutions in media, creative and CXM, operating in over 145 markets worldwide.
M. IQBAL Hadromi

Founded Hadromi & Partners in 1999 from the age of 27, he has now been practicing law for 25 years in Indonesia. Listed as among Indonesia’s top 100 lawyers by Asia Business Law Journal for three consecutive years, as well as once listed by Lawyer Monthly Magazine of UK as one of the Asia Pacific's 100 leading lawyers. Asia Pacific Legal 500 also once named him as one of the leading lawyers in Indonesia. He has vast experience in among others shipping & maritime, and oil & gas legal work including on litigation and arbitration. Over the years he has also been involved in many large mergers & acquisition, financing and cross-border transactions, acting as local counsel for various multinational companies. Aside from handling legal cases he continues to serve as managing partner in the law firm.
Oliver Khaw

Oliver is a multi-jurisdictional lawyer with 25 years’ experience in private practice and in-house roles. He was called to the Bar of England and Wales and the Bar of Malaysia, and have thereafter developed a career as a disputes lawyer and later as in-house counsel based in Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore and most recently Indonesia. After 13 years as the head of legal for PT Bayan Resources Tbk, Oliver now sits as a director of Bayan.

Previously served as Commissioner of PT Espay Debit Indonesia Koe (2017-2020), Chief Legal & Strategic Head of Orang Tua Group (2013-2015), Legal Director of the PT Elang Mahkota Teknologi Tbk (“EMTEK”) (2007-2013), and partner at Dermawan & Co Law firm (1999-2006). Concurrently serves as Director (since 2015), Chairwoman of ESG Committee (since 2021), Corporate Secretary (since 1 October 2016) and Group General Counsel of EMTEK.

His main job/profession is an advocate, a founder Partner of Law Firm Ricardo Simanjuntak& Partners, he is also a Receiver and Administrator, an Authorised Mediator, a lecturer for a post graduate program at University of Airlangga, Surabaya and speaker at national and international seminars/webinars. He has just finished serving as a Vice President of the Indonesian Advocate Association (PERADI) in 2020, as well as the Chairman Board of Certification of (Indonesian Receiver/Administrator Association (AKPI) in August 2022. He published two books : Teknik Perancangan Kontrak Bisnis (Indonesian), 3rd ed. (2018) and Dispute Settlement Mechanisms under the ASEAN Legal Frameworks, A collective commitment creating the rules-based ASEAN Economic Community (English) (2015).

ELIGIBILITY
How do I know if I am eligible to make a submission?
We highly encourage all firms, individuals and in-house teams to submit, as we have numerous award categories to choose from. We welcome both past participants and newcomers to join the submission for the awards.
Is self-nomination permitted?
Yes, we accept self-nominated submissions. We also accept third-party submissions, should you wish to nominate an external party or vice versa.
Is there a fee required to make a submission in the law awards?
No, there is no fee payment required for you or your firm/team to make a submission.
TIMELINE OF EVENTS
When will the finalists and winners be announced?
The shortlist of finalists will be released around 4-8 weeks prior to the awards ceremony. The winners will be exclusively announced at the awards ceremony on 6 October 2022.
NOMINATION PROCESS AND ASSESSMENT
How are the finalists chosen?
Asian Legal Business will compile all of the submission entries, and the ALB editorial and research teams will extensively review each submission to ensure the criteria are met in order to advance to the shortlist of finalists. We stress that this process is fair, impartial and not subject to external influences.
How are the winners chosen?
Once the shortlist of finalists have been announced, an independent judging panel will review and select their top three choices for the award categories they are assigned to. The scores for each award category will be tabulated, and the individual/firm/team with the highest score will be announced as the winner.
What are the award categories that I can take part in?
Any law firms, in-house teams or individuals may take part in multiple award categories if appropriate. The researchers reserve the right to move entries from one category to another if they feel it appropriate. The researchers’ decisions are final and no correspondence will be entered into.
Who will be on the judging panel for ALB Indonesia Law Awards?
There will be an independent judging panel of at least 25 senior and expert legal industry leaders to review the submission materials. The judging panel will be selected on the basis of their expertise and knowledge, and will be comprised from various sectors to correspond to the diverse list of award categories. A partial list of judges’ names will be released prior to the awarding ceremony, and the remaining judges will be revealed on the evening of the awards.
What will my contact information/my client’s information be used for?
All contact information provided will not be disclosed to external parties; and will only be seen by our ALB research team and the judges panel. We keep the information on record internally, in case we need to contact you or your client regarding any questions or discrepancies in the submission form.
Where will my name/firm name/team name be published if we are a finalist or winner?
As a finalist and/or winner, your firm/team/individual name will be published in ALB awards materials and print magazine. For more information, please contact us.
Is my submission confidential?
Any information you submit will only be reviewed by the ALB team and independent judging panel, whose names will be published. The material submitted will only be disclosed to the above; if there is any information that is strictly confidential, please mark clearly on the nomination form. Though we do our best to maintain the security of the information you provide, any information you transmit to us is done at your own risk and Thomson Reuters is not responsible for any unauthorized transmission of information.
