South Korea’s largest law firm Kim & Chang will officially open in Hong Kong in December, after receiving a licence to become a foreign registered law firm in the territory.

The firm has operated in Hong Kong for over two years through a liaison office, and expects to better serve its international clients once it is fully established there.

U.S.-qualified lawyer Alex Yang will head the Hong Kong office, which will be Kim & Chang’s first one outside South Korea. Yang, who joined the firm in 2010, has worked for Ernst & Young and Morgan Stanley in the past.

Additionally, up to three associates are expected to relocate to Hong Kong from Seoul.
