Baker & McKenzie’s Malaysian member firm Wong & Partners has appointed a new partner-in-charge of its finance & projects practice. Mark Lim joins the firm from Albar & Partners, where he spent 13 years carving out a specialisation in the debt capital markets and structured financing fields.
Lim 's primary responsibility will be in spearheading Wong & Partners’ finance & projects practice. In May it advised the financiers on Malaysia’s largest IPO seen so far this year: the listing of Masterskill Education Group on the Bursa Malaysia Securities Berhad.
One of Lim’s other specialisations is in Islamic finance – a fast-growing practice area for law firms in Asia and a must-have for those firms working in Malaysia. Under the leadership of Albar & Partners’ managing partner, Syed Zaid Albar, Lim’s former firm secured some major Islamic finance deals, most recently including the US$34m Sunway Platinum Success musharakah financing.
