Clifford Chance is transferring London corporate partner Nigel Wellings to its Dubai office, in order to build up its Middle East practice. Wellings will join two other partners based in Dubai’s corporate group next week (28 June), and report to practice head Simon Clinton.

Wellings was made partner in 2006 and has since headed up some of the Magic Circle firm’s big-ticket cross-border M&A deals, which include the failed US$19.5bn bid by Chinalco for Rio Tinto last year. His transfer follows the firm’s decision last week to re-elect Gulf managing partner Graham Lovett for another four-year term. Lovett has been handling CC’s Middle East strategy since his appointment to the position in 2005.
