The board of the Singapore Exchange (SGX) has recommended the appointment of Drew & Napier chief executive Davinder Singh SC as a non-executive and independent director. A second proposed candidate, Singapore Investment Corporation adviser Quah Wee Ghee, has also been recommended by the exchange’s board.

Davinder, who currently hold positions as director of Petra Foods, PSA International and Singapore Technologies Engineering, will face a shareholder vote at the SGX’s annual general meeting on 6 Oct 2011.

Quah served as president of GIC Asset Management from 2007 to 2011. He joined GIC from IBM, and held roles as the director of the fixed income and equities department.

The fresh blood will replace retiring directors Ho Tian Yee and Low Check Kian, who have been on the SGX board since its inception. Both Ho and Low will not be seeking re-election.

The proposed nominations follow the July 2011 appointment of Jane Diplock as an independent and non-executive director starting. Diplock was chairman of the New Zealand Securities Commission from September 2001 to April 2011.

The SGX also announced that Ai June Schult would be taking up the role of senior vice-president and head of communications in August 2011.ALB
