Baker & McKenzie.Wong & Leow has appointed senior counsel Chan Leng Sun as a principal in the firm’s dispute resolution practice group based in Singapore. Chan joins from local maritime firm Ang & Partners where he was an equity partner since 2004.

Chan has 18 years of legal experience with a practice focused on litigation and arbitration in the shipping, trade, oil, insurance and commerce sectors. He is an arbitrator and adjudicator on the panel of various institutions in Singapore, Malaysia and China. These include the SIAC, SCMA, KLRCA, CIETAC and CMAC. Chan has also held board and panel roles including president of the disciplinary tribunal on the Singapore Income Tax Board of Review as well as the Maintenance of Parents Tribunal.

Chan’s career kicked off in Kuala Lumpur with Malaysian firm Mah-Kok & Din (now Raja, Darryl & Loh) in 1988. He joined Ang & Partners in 1993 and has worked with the United Nations Compensation Commission in Geneva between 2002 and 2003.

Chan is the latest practitioner to be appointed to senior counsel – having received his appointment on Jan. 7.  Roderick Edward Martin from Martin & Partners was the only other lawyer to receive senior counsel status in Singapore this year.ALB
