Singapore has announced that Justice Steven Chong Horng Siong, currently a High Court judge, will become the country’s newest attorney-general (AG) from June 25, with the present AG, Sundaresh Menon, becoming a Judge of Appeal of the High Court from Aug.1, according to The Straits Times. Additionally, Vinodh Coomaraswamy SC, a partner at Shook Lin & Bok, has been appointed as a judicial commissioner, with his term also commencing from Aug.1.

Justice Chong is a former joint managing partner of Drew & Napier and former managing partner of Rajah & Tann, while Menon, formerly a managing partner of Rajah & Tann, was appointed the AG in October 2010.

Coomaraswamy was appointed judicial commissioner, which has powers similar to that of a judge, for a year. “This Firm has a tradition of contributing more than its fair share to public service and the High Court bench,” said Sarjit Singh Gill, SC, Shook Lin & Bok Senior Partner, in a statement. “We are proud to continue this tradition.” ALB
