ALB, with the support of the Korea Fair Trade Commission and the Korean Bar Association, is proud to present the 1st ALB Korean Intellectual Property (IP) Conference scheduled for Oct. 15, 2013 in Seoul. IP experts from leading government, technology, entertainment and pharmaceutical conglomerates will gather at this innovative forum to exchange know-how on the most up-and-coming IP commercialisation and brand protection issues in Korea.

The conference will have a unique structure covering the entire IP management process from licensing, anti-counterfeiting through to optimal dispute resolution, while also adopting an innovative angle whereby it addresses the crucial interaction between IP and Competition Law. The Korea Fair Trade Commission will be giving an overview of the revised 2012 Guidelines for Fair Patent Licensing, which promotes the toughening of IP-related antitrust regulations. Following on the “Competition versus IP Law” theme, one of Korea’s leading pharmaceutical companies will talk on the unprecedented first case of reverse payment in Korea between GlaxoSmithKline and Dong-A Pharmaceutical.

The series of hands-on case studies will not end here: Walt Disney and CJ E&M will be sharing industry strategies on online anti-counterfeiting and combating digital piracy, while Samsung and Qualcomm will be talking about IP litigation in Fair, Reasonable, and Non-Discriminatory terms (FRAND). The challenges stemming from the misleading interpretation of patent trolls will be explored by examining cases of the patent holding company, the individual inventor and product discontinuation. The conference will conclude with an informative panel session, whereby delegates will get a chance to interact with speakers on the increasing role of the in-house counsel regarding IP monetisation and brand protection.

ALB is happy to share that lawyers are entitled to seven CPD points accreditation from the Korean Bar by attending the event. Please click here to find out more about the Korean IP Conference.
