An exciting in-house opportunity with a global MNC for a senior lawyer to join the regional legal team as the sole counsel based in Kuala Lumpur.
- The successful candidate will provide legal support to numerous business units in Malaysia and Taiwan to manage the legal risk on commercial projects and transactions and ensure compliance with all legal and statutory matters for the company in Malaysia and Taiwan.
- Scope of work includes providing legal advice on project and construction contracts, M&A, employment and safety and product quality issues, lease and property matters, general commerical transactions, disputes and litigation.
- The successful candidate will work with and also manage the engagement of external legal advisers.
- Reporting to the General Counsel based in Singapore, the successful candidate will also support the General Counsel to implement systems, actions and training to minimize risk.
- The successful candidate will work with the Country President, Country CFO, General Managers, Line Managers and other personnel in the businesses in Malaysia and Taiwan.
- Some regional travel will be required in Asia.
Qualification
- Law degree and admitted to practice in Malaysia.
- 9+ PQE.
- Legally astute with experience in projects and construction.
- Fluent in English and Mandarin (traditional Chinese for Taiwan).
- Strong communication skills.
- Commercial savvy and results oriented.
- Efficient and effective in progressing contracts.
- Able to work independently as the sole counsel in K.L. and also as part of a team.
