Job Description

Our client is a key player in the music industry representing the interests of its members from across the globe. Our client's Asia headquarters based in Hong Kong, is looking for a IP Policy and Regulatory Counsel to join its team in Hong Kong.

Responsibilities:

 

  • Monitoring, interpreting and influencing the political and regulatory developments in Asia which may impact the client's members' businesses which includes drafting submissions on improvements in copyright law, collective management regulations and any laws impacting the recorded music industry
  • Collaborating with the client's parent organisation to help drive IP enforcement initiatives in Asia which includes advising and assisting in enforcement actions in relation to rights controlled by the client's members and supporting evidence collection for the purposes of litigation, administrative actions and sending warning notices initiated by the client or its parent or affiliated organisations.
  • Review and translate Chinese laws, regulations, notices and proposed legislation into English
  • Translate English policy submissions into Chinese

Key requirements:

  • Law degree from a reputable university
  • At least 5 years of experience practising intellectual property law with a focus on copyright
  • Experience of drafting submissions with respect to IP laws highly desirable
  • Preference will be given to those with experience working at a regional or international level
  • A good understanding of the international copyright framework relating to sound recordings is preferred
  • Demonstrated experience in working across different cultures and nationalities
  • Must be proactive, self-driven with an ability to work independently
  • Chinese and English written and spoken fluency required
  • Travel in the Asian region and some travel outside of the region required
