Indian law firm Khaitan & Co has hired corporate experts Promode Murugavelu (L) and Rakki Partani as partners in Chennai and Bengaluru, respectively. While Murugavelu joins from Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas & Co, Partani was most recently a partner at J Sagar Associates.

With more than 16 years of experience, Murugavelu advises on cross-border M&A, court-based arrangements, compromises, capital restructurings and business consolidations, asset and business acquisitions and joint ventures, with special focus on the healthcare, manufacturing, edtech and IT sectors.

Having started his career at Dua Associates, he joined the erstwhile Amarchand & Mangaldas & Suresh A Shroff & Co in 2010. Following the split in 2015, Murugavelu moved to SAM in 2015, becoming a partner in 2016.

With close to 15 years of experience, Partani advises on private equity, venture capital funding, mezzanine debt, general corporate, M&A and real estate. She joined JSA in 2015 from Wadia Ghandy & Co, and became a partner in 2020.

With these additions Khaitan now has four partners in Chennai and 18 in Bengaluru.
