Khaitan & Co is the latest to hire in the busy Bengaluru market with the addition of indirect tax specialist Brijesh Kothary, who was previously a partner at tax-focused law firm Lakshmikumaran and Sridharan.

Kothary specialises in indirect tax and customs, and goods and services tax. He has experience in optimising tax exposure and structuring efficient business models, and has advised multinational and large domestic companies, including major public sector undertakings, on creating efficient tax structures.

At LKS, he also handled several long-term retainer clients, providing advice on their day-to-day business transactions.

Khaitan now boasts 18 partners in Bengaluru, which is seeing strong lateral partner movement in 2024. Antares Legal, Emerald LawStratage Law Partners, and Wadia Ghandy & Co have all launched Bengaluru outposts in recent times, while J. Sagar AssociatesAZB & PartnersCyril Amarchand MangaldasKhaitan & Co,  and Economic Law Practice have all expanded their presence in the city.

Lalu John Philip, a former partner at J Sagar Associates, recently launched his own firm, Boolean Legal, in the tech capital.
