Indian law firm Trilegal has tapped rival Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas for a ninth partner this year, with capital markets lawyer Abhinav Maker joining in its Mumbai and New Delhi offices.

In April, Trilegal had lured an eight-partner M&A team, led by Amit Khansaheb, from SAM. Maker becomes Trilegal’s 12th partner hire overall this year, the others being disputes experts Milanka Chaudhury, who joined from Dentons Link Legal in July, and Tanmay Patnaik, who moved from Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas also in April.

Maker represents issuers, underwriters and investors on securities offerings, including initial public offerings and QIP offerings. He advises on regulatory and structuring related aspects in relation to setting up and structuring of investment vehicles, and has experience representing sponsors and investment managers on initial offerings by infrastructure investment trusts (InvITs) and real estate investment trusts (REITs).

Maker has advised on the IPOs of SBI Cards and Payments Services, PNB Housing Finance, Punjab National Bank, Au Small Finance Bank and Bectors Food Specialities. He has also advised sponsors and managers of pooled investment vehicles, including Brookfield-sponsored India Infrastructure Trust, Oriental InfraTrust, Reliance-sponsored Digital Fibre Infrastructure Trust and L&T-sponsored IndInfravit Trust.

Maker joined SAM in 2015 from AZB & Partners. Prior to that, he had stints at Desai & Diwanji and the legacy Amarchand & Mangaldas & Suresh A Shroff & Co.

Trilegal sees itself “growing aggressively in the coming years,” partners Sridhar Gorthi and Nishant Parikh told ALB in July.

With the addition of Maker, Trilegal now has 105 partners across its offices.
