International law firm, Norton Rose Group has held informal discussion with U.S.-based international law firm Fulbright & Jaworski about a potential tie up, according to Legal Week.
Norton Rose chief executive Peter Martyr confirmed to Legal Week that it has held informal talks over the possibility of a tie-up with Fulbright & Jaworski. Norton Rose currently has offices in Canada and Latin America, but not the United States. A tie up with Fulbright & Jaworski would form a global firm with revenues of almost US$2 billion and close to 3,500 lawyers. Fulbright & Jaworski has nearly 900 lawyers in the United States and 17 offices world-wide.
“There is a time and a place for everything and the key is to not be in a hurry,” Martyr told Legal Week. “Whoever we end up with, it will be as a result of getting to know them well. We keep a list of firms we work well with and we may end up with one of them or we may not. The markets are very uncertain at the moment.”
The Norton Rose Group merged with Australian law firm Deacons in early 2010 and has since then merged with firms in Canada, South Africa and Latin America.
